The Main Dish

Looking for the Spoon...

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

The moment you have all been waiting for has finally arrived. The winner of the JonBon reference contest is none other than our very own Sister Merry Kerry, who provided a very well-researched response.

For all inquring minds, the answer key is as follows:

In response to your follow-up question, we all fear (Fear - I awarded only one point for all Fear references since they were all song title references, no specific lyrics) rejection. It's completely normal. I guess it's because we've seen love come, we've seen it shot down, we've seen it die in vain (Blaze of Glory). I mean really, raise your hands (Raise Your Hands) if you want your secret dreams (Secret Dreams) shot down in a blaze of glory (Blaze of Glory). Any takers? I didn't think so. Even so, love is like a hunger - without it we would starve (I'd Die For You). And nothing would mean nothing without love (Without Love). So don't runaway (Runaway) from it. Put yourself out there. Tell the person about your feelings. Or, if you know them through a friend, get the friend to hook you up (variation on Hook Me Up). If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes.(If That's What It Takes) What do you have to lose? These days (These Days), it's all about taking risks, being wild in the streets (Wild in the Streets). It's your life (variation on It's My Life) afterall. And who knows? Maybe through your act of courage, you'll find the one to whom you will never say goodbye (Never Say Goodbye), the one with whom you will spend the next 100 years (Next 100 Years). And you'll be able to say "I got the girl!"(I Got the Girl) and maybe even put a diamond ring (Diamond Ring) on her finger. I believe (I Believe) that the only thing to fear (Fear) is fear itself. Besides, if it doesn't work out, you can always (Always) find something for the pain (Something for the Pain). Maybe some bitter wine (Bitter Wine), novocaine (Novocaine), a last cigarette (Last Cigarette), or a bar that's open all night (Open All Night). It's all right if you have a good time! (Let it Rock) Besides, even if this person doesn't turn out to be your true love, you might get one wild night (One Wild Night) where you get as close as the holy ghost is. (Bed of Roses) Regardless, before taking any action, just be forewarned that you can't hide when the infection starts, because love is a social disease (Social Disease). That's the price of love. (Price of Love) Keep the faith. (Keep the Faith)

Contestants, some of you found additional JonBon lyrics within the text. Although I admire your thoroughness and fervour, in order to keep things fair I had to stay within the bounds of the references I specifically and purposely added. Also please note that additional points were not awarded for identifying a song title and album if both were the same. One point was awarded for each of the references above.

Thank you to all who participated!

I am willing to address questions, comments, concerns (I know there are bound to be some) only if they are phrased politely and in a non-accusatory manner. ;o)

The latest hot dog news

Since we all know that I am a fan of the delicious hot dog, here is some breaking hot dog news...

The six-year world hot dog-eating champion from Japan was defeated yesterday by an American who ate 66 hotdogs in 12 minutes.

Although, to give this poor Japanese guy some credit, apparently he has some sort of jaw injury and can now barely open his mouth.

Such is the life and trials of a hot dog-eating champion.
